WRITTEN AND ILLUSTRATED BY TRACEY CAMPBELL PEARSON
The seeds for the stories that I write often come from my family and community here in Vermont. But, like the weeds in my garden, I am often surprised where they end up!

Illustrating another author's text gives me the opportunity to grow as an artist. I have to look at things I might not have thought of if I had written the story myself. I have to stretch my brain…and that is always a healthy thing for an artist to do!

MOTHER GOOSE BOARD BOOKS
ILLUSTRATED BY TRACEY CAMPBELL PEARSON
These books are modern versions of Nursery Rhymes where each poem creates its own story. I love Mother Goose and I am on a quest to see that every child gets introduced to her. I also wanted to create books that are truly designed for the very young child.

EARLY PICTUREBOOKS

ILLUSTRATED BY TRACEY CAMPBELL PEARSON
Public Domain Text
When I first started making picture books, I began with a well-known text. I put all my energy into making the illustrations. I was able to focus on pacing, rhythm and the flow of the book. It was a great way to get comfortable with the format of a picture book.

CHAPTER BOOKS
ILLUSTRATED BY TRACEY CAMPBELL PEARSON
Illustrating chapter books is another way for me to grow as an artist. Unlike a picture book, where I strive to create more stories with my pictures than the words actually tell, a chapter book is the opposite. Now my job as an illustrator is to take a lot of words and pick and choose certain moments of the story. I must be true to every detail of the author's story! It is also fun to give my eyes a break and work in black and white!

THE CLAUDE AND SHIRLEY SERIES

WRITTEN BY JOAN LOWREY NIXON
ILLUSTRATED BY TRACEY CAMPBELL PEARSON
This series has been very popular, especially in school libraries and classrooms. These early chapter books are great read aloud or alone. Claude and Shirley, a couple of zany pioneer characters, are living in Texas. With lots of hilarious adventures and Nixon's great use of language, they are full of fun. The three chapters and full color illustrations make them very accessible for young readers ready for chapter books. Teachers and librarians are frequently asking me where they can get more copies of these books and if they will ever go back into print. If I find an answer I will post it on this site!
