SUMMARY
Joe's Snack Bar is a favorite spot. Customers
from all over town line up to buy ice cream cones and french fries throughout
the summer. But every time autumn rolls around, Joe shuts down shop and
disappears until the next summer. The townspeople have their own ideas
about where he goes. "He's gone to the moon," cries tiny June.
"In Okefenokee!" screams Mrs. Bodoky. Everyone imagines him
in all sorts of places with all kinds of customers, including alligators
in the swamp, elephants on a safari, having tea with a queen and on the
street in New York City. But Joe lets the reader know on the last page,
without a word, what he is really up to every winter.
