About Bob
THE STORY OF BOB
The idea for Bob arrived with the mail. Our
mail does not come to our house. It comes to the general store.
One day, while walking home with my mail I ran into Chuck, my neighbor.
Chuck has lots of chickens. He told me about a rooster he had that
was learning how to crow. It was making all sorts of silly sounds,
trying to get it right. I thought about this rooster all of the
way home. Without another rooster to teach him how to crow, how
would he ever get it right? Who would teach him? What would happen
if he met a frog? Would he ribbet instead of crow? The story of
Bob was born.

THE DUMMY
The
dummy is where a book really starts to take shape. From the very first
dummy, Bob wanted to be a book that was big and square. I wanted Bob to
stand out when he is read to a crowd. I wanted kids to be able to see
the pictures and ribbet and hop at the same time!
I love making dummies! That's when, I really get to
know my characters and they get to know each other. I made three dummies
for Bob.
